Title and description: Titanic Deception, Michael Kearney works in a Wall Street firm setting up luncheons for busy executives. He overhears a story about how the sinking of the Titanic was rigged, and he goes home to read his great-grandmother’s journal of her experience surviving the sinking. He finds her story corroborates the one the executives were telling, and he sets up a blog to share the information. He becomes a target; first for an ex-CIA agent/conspiracy theorist who wants to know more so he can prevent the next disaster, then by the powers that be who want to take him out for knowing too much. When his girlfriend is kidnapped, Michael must step up and save her as well as the intended victims in the next disaster.

Readers are transported back and forth from Michael’s story in modern day to his great-grandmother’s experience on the Titanic in this page-turning thriller.

How long have you worked on your WIP, and when do you expect to finish: Started in November 2011 (Nanowrimo) and hope to publish by April 15, 2012 for the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic.

Lightening strikes and hoards: the critical role of beta readers

I wrote this article on my author site after being inspired by some surprising (infuriating, actually) discoveries by my beta readers. When I sent out the manuscript for THE PRINCE OF GRAVES to the brave souls who volunteered to read it, I had an idea of the problems they might find: some passive voice, some tense inconsistencies, and the occasional typo. Yes, they did find these, plus some errors that I cannot explain how I put them in there in the first place.

So if you’re wondering about using beta readers, here’s my two cents:

Astronomers Aim To Take First Picture of Black Hole

Taking a picture of a black hole, an object so gravitationally bound that not even photons of light can escape, sounds like an oxymoron, but astronomers this week will attempt to do just that.

What they’re hoping to glimpse is something called the “event horizon” — the swirl of matter and energy that are visible around the rim of the black hole just before it falls into the abyss.

This is really incredible. Imagine the possibilities. Now this is #science inspiring #scifi.

Book Genre: High Fantasy
Title and description: Sleight of Spirit, book 1 of the Athele Series The Athele series is a high fantasy epic with elements of magic, multiple planes, alternate universes, and a rich mythos. It is set in variable places, but centers mainly on a classic fantasy setting, also including flashes of steampunk, sci-fi, and even the earth we ourselves inhabit (or something quite similar to it).

Melissa Dolloy is a young healer, quickly rising in renown throughout the countryside. But her bright future is doused when she is possessed by a demon. Adopted by a man she hates and unable to even speak her name as any but Morgan, the former healer struggles against those who wish to own her, those who wish to love her, and worst of all, the demon that claims her soul.

Sleight of Spirit will be published in winter of 2012. Please stop by The Athele Series blog, follow, and leave a comment!

And here it is, the moment I’ve been waiting for…okay, one of the moments I’ve been waiting for. I’ve now received the 99% complete proof of the cover for my novella, THE PRINCE OF GRAVES. I love it. The artist has done a lot in his past, but this was his first book cover. I think he did an awesome job. I’m going to try to convince him to open his services to other writers as well. If he agrees, I’ll post his website link under the resources tab to the left.

THE PRINCE OF GRAVES should be released at the end of the month, or early February (I’m going to be saying that a lot, sorry).
